Niles Owen recorded two goals and two assists while Randy Willis stopped 25 of 29 shots faced as the Fond du Lac Bears opened up Great Lakes Hockey League Tournament play with a 9-4 victory over the Eagle River Falcons.
The win puts the Bears at 1-0 in Pool B.
In a relatively cleanly played game, the Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Robbie Coleman and Ryan Sabel just 1:10 apart. Owen would chip in his first goal of the game with 1:53 remaining in the opening frame to extend the Bears lead to 3-1.
The Falcons used a high shooting percentage in the second period to eventually tie the game around the midway mark, but Mitch Grebe would put the Bears back on top for good with 4:52 remaining.
The Bears went on to score five more in the third period to put the game away.
The Bears will now face the West Bend Bombers at 8 AM Eastern to finish pool play.
