Bears Grab Two Big GLHL Wins

The Bears finally got back to their winning ways this past weekend, defeating the Calumet Wolverines and Portage Lake Pioneers at home for a weekend sweep.

Fond du Lac, WI — The Bears finally got back to their winning ways this past weekend, defeating the Calumet Wolverines and Portage Lake Pioneers at home for a weekend sweep.

Friday (W, 5-3) vs. Calumet

The Bears jumped out to a 4-1 lead and held on to defeat the visiting Wolverines by a final score of 5-3.

After trading goals less than a minute apart, the Bears offense found the back of the net three times in the opening frames final five minutes to jump out to the early lead. Benton Deanovich, Ian McKinch, James Goodfellow and Jordan Foster all tallied goals in the period.

Calumet would record the only tally of the second period, and the teams would trade goals in the opening minute of the third to account fo all of the scoring.

Randy Willis stopped 34 of his 37 shots faced in the victory.

FRIDAY BOX SCORE

Saturday (W, 10-4) vs. Portage Lake

The score was one thing. The action was another.

Midway through the game, the score was 5-4 in favor of the Bears, and one look at the scoresheet will tell anyone that it was an interesting game.

The Bears racked up a total of 73 penalty minutes while the Pioneers had 74 minutes in penalties during the wild contest, overshadowing a six-point night from James Goodfellow.

30 minutes worth of penalties were assessed at the 5:52 mark of the second period between the two teams, and another 95 minutes worth of penalties were handed out with 4:11 left to go in the game.

Seven Bears recorded multi-point nights, led by Goodfellow's six (1-5-6), then followed by Conrad Acheson and Ryan Smet with five each (2-3-5), Matt Greenwood (1-2-3), Ian McKinch (1-1), Tom Glomski (1-1) and Terry Kalata (1-1.

Joe Rebedew got the win in net, turning aside 25 shots.

Portage Lake's Wyatt Geshel and Mitchel Kumpula each received suspensions for their part in the third-period fights. The Bears Jordan Foster was issued an indefinite suspension by the Great Lakes Hockey League as well.
