Weekend Recap: Bombers Capture Keevin Cup with 4-2 Win Over Bears in Season Opener
2019-10-28The West Bend Bombers take home the Keevin Cup for the third year in a row after a 4-2 victory over the Bears to start the 2019-20 season.
Unfortunately for the Bears, the Keevin Cup will have to wait to come home.
The Bears dropped the annual Keevin Cup game on Satruday, losing to the West Bend Bombers 4-2. It marks the third straight season the Bombers have held the trophy.
In what was a clean and back-and-forth affair, the Bombers jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 3:25 into the opening frame. At the 10:01 mark, Nick Monfils scored his first as a Bear to tie the game up at one. The Bombers would answer right back less than two minutes later, taking a 2-1 lead into the break.
After a scoreless second, the Bears and Bombers would trade goals back and forth, with Tanner Duffney cutting the deficit to 3-2 with less than three minutes to play. With goaltender Christian Blick on the bench, the Bears pusehd for the equalizer, but the Bombers found the empty net to secure the 4-2 victory.
The Bears outshot the Bombers 45-34 in the contest.
The Bears will host the Marquette Mutineers Friday night to open GLHL play.
