Early Lead Not Enough as Bears Fall in Shootout

2021-01-02

The Bears brought a 2-0 lead into the third period Friday night, but it wasn't enough as the team fell in a shootout.

Hockey players don't like moral victories.

But if there was ever a time to accept one, it was Friday night, as the team was able to return to the ice for the first time since COVID-19 shut down the league last season.

The good feeling though went away as the Bears saw a 2-0 lead entering the third period disappear as the Bombers found their goal-scoring touch. The Bombers scored three times in the third to match the Bear's third-period tally, sending the game to overtime.

Extra-time wasn't enough and the game eventually went to a shootout, with the Bombers connecting twice to the Bears one to grab the victory 4-3.

The Bears (0-0-0-1) will travel to Mosinee next weekend for a two-game set Friday and Saturday against the Papermakers. Both games start at 8 PM.
