Bears Hot Start to Season Continues

Fond du Lac, WI - Despite an overtime loss on Friday, the Bears still collected three of a possible four points over the weekend to remain in first place in the Great Lakes Hockey League standings.
Friday (L 6-5 OT) vs. Fox Cities Ice Dogs
In a true back-and-forth game, the Bear's efforts came up just short in a 6-5 overtime loss. The Ice Dogs took the early 1-0 lead before Conner Martin tied it up late in the first period to send the game to the first intermission tied 1-1. The Ice Dogs would start the second period with two goals in the first 5:15, but the Bears would respond with one from Jordan Foster just a minute later, then tie the game on Foster's second of the night with 6:05 left in the second. The Dogs' would regain the lead with 2:02 remaining in the second, but less than two minutes into the third, Caylen Dyni tied it up at 4-4. After pulling goaltender for the extra attacker late in the game trailing 5-4, the Bears' Brady Beekman tied it up with just 41 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. A costly turnover right in front of the net with just over 30 seconds remaining in the extra period would seal the Bear's fate.
Matty Taylor made 29 saves in goal. Brady Beekman led the offense with one goal and two assists.
Saturday (W 9-6) vs. De Pere Deacons
Saturday saw another back-and-forth contest, but the Bears pulled away late in the 9-6 victory. It was the first time the Beras and Deacons met since facing one another in the GLHL Tournament Championship this spring.
Nick Monfils scored the eventual game-winner with 14:51 remaining in the third. Monfils paced the Bears' offense with two goals and two assists, while Ryan Sabel continued his hot start to the season with another three-point night. Jordan Foster completed the Gordie Howe Hat Trick, with a goal, assist, and a fight in the game. Justin Davidson made 33 saves in net.
