2023-04-03The Bear's season ended with disappointment in the Great Lakes Hockey League semi-finals Saturday night.
Calumet, MI - The Bear's 2022-23 season was full of highs. Unfortunately for the Bears, it ended on a low.
Up 3-2 entering the third period of their semi-final matchup with the Mosinee Papermakers, the normally prolific offense of the Bears was held off the scoresheet as the Papermakers scored two in the third to win the matchup 4-3. The Papermakers would move on and defeat the Portage Lake Pioneers for the championship.
Things started off promising for the Bears in the league tournament, taking care of business against the #8 seeded De Pere Deacons Friday morning with a 12-1 victory. They then took on the Eagle River Falcons Friday night and came away with a 6-2 victory to propel them to the semis.
Before the Bears semi-final matchup, Anthony Grebe was presented with the League's scoring title award, scoring 54 points in 18 games (3 PPG average) to lead the way. Grebe finished the GLHL regular season with 26 goals and 28 assists. Nick Monfils and Matt Letmanski tied for seventh in the league scoring race with 40 points each.
The Bears finish the season with an overall record of 24-3. They won the Great Lakes Hockey League regular season championship with an 18-2 record, went 4-0 in exhibition play, and 2-1 in the tournament.
