The Fond du Lac Bears dropped a 5-1 decision on Saturday night after Eagle River capitalized on early momentum and a strong second period. The Bears generated steady offense throughout the game, finishing with a 36-31 edge in shots, but were unable to solve the Falcons beyond a first-period response goal.
With the loss, the Bears drop to 3-2-1 in the GLHL.
Eagle River opened the scoring at 9:22 of the first period before Fond du Lac answered late. Drake Deanovich tied the game at 2:10, finishing a play set up by Blake Spies to make it 1-1. The tie was short-lived, as the Falcons regained the lead with 58 seconds remaining in the period and carried a 2-1 advantage into the first intermission.
The second period proved decisive. Eagle River extended the lead at 13:09, then struck twice on the power play at 5:34 and 1:34 to push the margin to 5-1. Despite multiple penalties on both sides and several opportunities to swing momentum, the Bears were unable to generate a goal in the middle frame.
Fond du Lac continued to push in the third period, outshooting Eagle River 13-7, but the score remained unchanged through the final 20 minutes. Justin Davidson handled a heavy workload in net, making 26 saves on 31 shots for the Bears, while Eagle River’s goaltender turned aside 35 of 36 attempts.
