The Fond du Lac Bears opened the new year with a convincing 6-1 victory over the Fox Cities Ice Dogs, controlling play for much of the night and pulling away as the game progressed. Fond du Lac finished with a 40-28 edge in shots and limited Fox Cities to just seven shots in the third period.
The Ice Dogs struck first on a power play at 16:12 of the opening period, but the Bears responded quickly. Matt Letmanski tied the game at 14:35 and followed with another goal at 11:10, both set up by Tom Glomski, to give Fond du Lac a 2-1 lead after the first. Despite being outshot 12-11 in the period, the Bears capitalized on their chances and established momentum early.
Fond du Lac extended the lead in the second period. Letmanski completed his hat trick with a power-play goal at 9:18, and Glomski added a goal of his own at 2:24 to make it 4-1. The Bears increased their pressure in the middle frame, outshooting Fox Cities 17-9 and spending extended time in the offensive zone.
The Bears closed out the game in the third period with two more goals from Blake Spies. Spies scored at 17:43 and again at 12:12, both coming off sustained offensive pressure as Fond du Lac continued to dictate play. The Bears held Fox Cities to just seven shots in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.
Justin Davidson delivered a strong performance in net, stopping 27 of 28 shots for a .964 save percentage. Offensively, Letmanski led the way with three goals, while Glomski recorded four points on a goal and three assists as the Bears opened January with a complete team effort.
The Bears now sit at 6-2-1-0 in the GLHL, good for second place with 13 points.
