Fond du Lac, WI — The Fond du Lac Bears went 1-0-0-1 over the weekend, grabbing their first Great Lakes Hockey League victory with an 8-0 win over Marquette.

Friday (W, 8-0) vs. Marquette

Led by a 30-save shutout by Randy Wills, and a four-point night by James Goodfellow, the Bears grabbed their first GLHL win of the season.

In what was a relatively clean game, with the team's combining for only three penalties, the Bears scored two goals in each of the first and second periods, then piled it on with four more, including a short-handed tally during the only Bears penalty by Goodfellow, in the final frame.

Willis stopped 10, 12 and 8 shots respectively during the contest.

Fourteen different Bears found their names on the scoresheet, including six with multi-point efforts. Ryan Durant and Terry Kalata each chipped in three points, while David Schlicting, Robbie Coleman and Ryan Smet chipped in with two apiece.

FRIDAY BOX SCORE

Saturday (L, 4-3) vs. West Bend

In what might have been the most entertaining game so far this season, the Bombers and Bears went back and forth. The non-league contest couldn't be decided in regulation, and five minutes of overtime wasn' enough either as the game went to a shootout. The Bears ultimately lost the contest 4-3.

After a scoreless first period, the Bombers found their way onto the scoreboard early in the second period.

Kalata would later convert on a 2-1 break for the Bears to tie up the game.

With 3:51 remaining in the second, the Bombers regained the lead, and they would take the 2-1 lead into the intermission.

More than midway through the third, Matt Greenwood converted on a Bears power play, assisted by Kalata and Goodfellow to tie the game up.

With tensions running high after an open-ice hit the resulted in multiple ejections, Goodfellow scored a shorthanded goal with just 2:15 left in the game, giving the Bears a 3-2 advantage.

The lead wouldn't last long, however, as with 43 seconds left, the Bombers would get the equalizer.

Following a scoreless overtime, the Bombers capitalized on two of their chances, while the Bears went scoreless, giving the Bombers the 4-3 shootout win.

The Bear would jump out to an early 1-0 lead 3:32 into the first period when Terry Kalata found the back of the net. The lead would be short-lived as the Falcons would tie it up less than two minutes later, and take the lead late in the first period.

The Falcons scored two in each of the first and second periods, while the Bears only scored one each. Each team would light the lamp three times in the third, including an empty-netter for the Falcons to seal away the game.

The key factor in the game was the Falcons ability to capitalize on the power play, as they went 3-5 with the man advantage. The Bears went 1-2 on the power play.
